Barcelos Ceramic (Silver Proof)

With the aim of showcasing elements of the traditional culture that make up our identity, the INCM, in partnership with the National Museum of Ethnology, has created the series of collection coins entitled "Portuguese Ethnography".
The fourth coin in this series, created by sculptor Baiba Šime, draws inspiration from the "Barcelos figurative art", original painted and cooked clay figures originating in the ingenious creativity of the master craftsmen, who explore subjects of a religious and festive nature, as well as daily life and beastly devils and misshapen figures. They also focus on popular legends and narratives, with an emphasis on the well-known rooster of Barcelos.
