INCM participates in the meetings of the Standing Committee of the Precious Metals Convention and the International Association of Assay Offices

The INCM, representing the Ministry of Finance, participated in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Precious Metals Convention and the meeting of the International Association of Assay Offices, which took place in Geneva on the 21st and 22nd of March respectively.

Representatives of the 18 countries that are signatories to the Precious Metals Convention were present, along with representatives from Italy, Croatia and the Ukraine, as observer countries, and China, Montenegro, Russia and Serbia as invited countries.

Among the various matters that were discussed, emphasis should be placed on the marking of precious metals by official assay offices and other organisations, namely factories owned by industrial companies in the sector, and amendments to the technical standards that govern official assay offices in the states that are signatories to the Convention, which will meet against on the 16th of September 2013, in Lisbon.

During the meeting of the International Association of Assay Offices on the following day, matters relating to the daily practice of the work of assay offices were debated, the laboratory results of the round robin carried out during 2012 were presented and modifications to legislation made in some countries were evaluated.

The International Association of Assay Offices brings together representatives of 41 countries and 53 assay offices, who will return to debate issues related to the sector at their next meeting, scheduled for the 17th of September of this year.
