February 2, 2016
The 2016 publishing plan was yesterday presented at the Imprensa Nacional Library, with the announcement of the publication of 66 new titles with INCM's seal, following an editorial line aimed at promoting Portuguese language and culture.
The Chairman of INCM's Board of Directors, Rui Carp, along with Publications Unit Director, Duarte Azinheira, outlined the main points of the programme and the most important projects of a publishing plan that prioritises classical authors, as well as providing space for new up-and-coming writers.
From among the main projects planned for 2016, emphasis should be placed on the Biografia de Eça de Queiroz (Biography of Eça de Queiroz), by Alfredo Brandão de Campos Matos, and the publication of the Obras Completas de Bocage (Complete Works of Bocage), in three volumes, coordinated by Daniel Pires, author of Dicionário de Bocage (Dictionary of Bocage), also to be published during the course of this year.
The Poesia Completa de Sá de Miranda (Complete Poetry of Sá de Miranda) the result of research and coordination work done by José Camões and his team, is another work that will play a major role on the Portuguese publishing scene, along with the publication of the Library of Portuguese Authors collection, which will also include the publication of two volumes of the Teatro Completo de Natália Correia (Complete Plays of Natália Correia), edited by Armando Nascimento.
Critical editions will continue to include seminal works by Almeida Garrett, Camilo Castelo Branco, Eça de Queirós and Fernando Pessoa, and the Fundamental Library of Portuguese Literature, a collection that intends to make available what may be the Portuguese literary canon, will this year continue with As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor (The Headmaster's Pupils), by Júlio Dinis, O Crime do Padre Amaro (The Crime of Father Amaro) by Eça de Queirós, Vinte Horas de Liteira (Twenty Hours in a Sedan Chair), by Camilo Castelo Branco, and História de Menina e Moça (The Story of the Girl and the Maiden) by Bernardim Ribeiro, among others.
In 2016, the INCM/Vasco Graça Moura Award will be dedicated to essays, as the winning book will be published in the Olhares (Gazes) collection, created a few years ago that already includes published texts by Adriano Moreira, Urbano Tavares Rodrigues and Edgar Morin.
As well as the winner of the 2nd edition of the INCM/Vasco Graça Moura prize, two new titles will also be published as part of the Olhares collection: Poesia e Artes Visuais (Poetry and Visual Arts), by Mário Avelar, and another work to be announced shortly.
Following the publication of the winning works from the 1st edition of the INCM/Vasco Graça Moura prize, a major effort will be made this year to consolidate Plural, a collection of Portuguese language poetry, with seven titles planned for 2016.
Emphasis should also be placed on the Great Portuguese Lives collection, aimed at the market of children and young people, which will feature publications of biographies of Antónia Ferreira, "A Ferreirinha", the Marquis of Alorna and of a further two personalities to be announced. Two new titles are planned for the D Collection, dedicated to Portuguese design, featuring the work of Ricardo Mealha and Luís Filipe de Abreu.
In addition to publications bearing the INCM seal, there will also be several created in partnership with other entities, specifically with public operators in the field of culture (museums, theatres and other institutions); around twenty titles are planned as part of these partnership agreements.
Following the presentation, a concert was held entitled Music for the House of Stuart, in partnership with Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, with pieces by composer Henry Purcell, presented by Maestro Aapo Häkkinen and soprano Ana Quintans.
