Hallmarking Convention and International Association of Assay Offices meetings

March 10, 2016

Representing Portugal, the INCM participated in the 78th meeting of the Hallmarking Convention Standing Committee (the Convention on the Control and Marking of Articles of Precious Metals), held at Hotel Olissipo in Lisbon on 9 March.

This morning, Hotel Olissipo also played host to the 17th meeting of the International Association of Assay Offices, where the INCM made their presence felt, participating in the exchange of experiences and in the debate on technical matters of general interest.

During the afternoon, some representatives of countries attending the Convention meeting also had the chance to visit the Lisbon Assay Office facilities.

The Hallmarking Convention is an international treaty on the cross-border trade in articles of precious metals, open to any United Nations member state with facilities for independently testing and marking articles of precious metals.

Each member country undertakes to allow products marked with the convention's mark, the so-called common control mark, to be imported without further testing or marking.
